A Whisper of Desire by Bronwen Evans

“Take your time.  I give you permission to do whatever you like, whatever you want, whatever you need.” – A Whisper of Desire, Bronwen Evans

A Whisper of Desire by Bronwen Evans is the fourth book in Evans’ Disgraced Lords series.  I read the book as a standalone just fine, without the back story of the previous three, but I feel it would have enhanced the experience.  The characters are all enjoyable and easy to connect with, and the author kept the pace moving throughout the book.  While the marriage of convenience is a hugely popular historical romance trope, this tale offers so much in the characters and plot to set it apart from the crowd.

Maitland Spencer, the “Cold Duke” of Lyttleton, has decided that it is time to settle down into a nicely structured and somewhat emotionally detached married life.  When he steps in to warn his friend’s beautiful little sister about an unsavory suitor, Lady Marisa Hawkstone is amazed that Maitland even knows she exists as a female.  After an arranged compromise is set up for the unlikely pair, they decide to make the best of their situation.  The enemy shared by the Disgraced Lords appears once again to strike out at the group with multiple attempts on Marisa…and Maitland suddenly finds he is not as emotionally detached as he hoped.  Will the newly married couple lose their lives before they even take a chance for happiness?
